Mouthguards

Mouthgaurds

Mouthguards protect your teeth and gums from injury. They also help lessen or prevent the severity of injuries associated with concussions caused by hits or blows to the jaws. If you participate in athletics, it’s recommended that you wear a mouthguard.

Types of Mouthguards

mouthguardMouthguards are essential for any athlete. The three basic types of mouthguards are the pre-made mouthguard, the “boil-and-bite” fitted mouthguard, and a custom-made mouthguard from your orthodontist. When you choose a mouthguard, be sure to pick one that’s comfortable and does not prevent you from breathing properly.

At Infinity Orthodontics, we offer every patient a mouthguard that’s especially made to fit your teeth with braces.

Mouthguard Care

Regularly cleaning your mouthguard is important to good health. Be sure to replace your old mouthguard with a new one every couple of months. For cleaning and care:

  • Gently scrub your mouthguard after each use with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
  • Store your mouthguard in a protective case.
  • Do not place your mouthguard in the sun or in hot water. Melting may occur.
